Question

Maulana I have a question to ask please if you can guide me in that.

Is it permissible to take out Third party car insurance? They only cover the damamge of the opposite parties vehicle.

May ALLAH reward you for that

JazakALLAHU'KHAIRAN

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, all types of car insurance are Haram whether it is third party (liability) insurance or full comprehensive coverage insurance as it involves interest, gambling and uncertainty.[i] However, if one is required to have car insurance by the law of the country he lives in, then one will be excused in taking out third party insurance.[ii]
