Title

If somebody falls asleep in sajdah does their wudhu break?

Question

If somebody falls asleep in sajdah does their wudhu break?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There are two possibilities to your query:

1)    A man falls asleep in the sunnah position of Sajdah (his forehands are off the ground, away from the body and his stomach is away from his thighs).

In such a scenario his wudhu will remain intact, as the sunnah position he is holding suggests that he still has effective control over his muscles.

2)    A female falls asleep in the position prescribed for women (her forehands on the ground and her thighs attached to her body).

In such a scenario her wudhu will be broken as the prescribed position results in the body to be relaxed which exposes the body to release wind.[i][i]
