Does not wearing a hijab between salah times break your wudhu?

Does not wearing a hijab between salah times break your wudhu? Also i have heard that you must cover the back of your hair when you make wudhu. Is any of this true or is it cultural

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

There are two parts to your query:

  • Wearing Hijab between Salah times.
  • Covering the back of the hair while making Wudhu.

1.      The first question is ambiguous. We are not sure whether the query is about not wearing Hijab between Salah times or while performing Salah. We will answer both situations.

1.1.           A Salah time is the time wherein one must perform a particular Fardh Salah, for example, the Salah time of Zuhr is the time wherein one must perform Zuhr Salah.

In principle, the Wudhu of a woman will not break if her hair is exposed between Salah times.

1.2.           In principle, it is necessary for a woman performing Salah, to cover herself with the exception of her hands, feet, and face. If a quarter of any part of her body other than her hands, feet and face gets exposed to the extent that she can read Subhanallah three times, then the Salah will not be valid and must be repeated.

2.      There is no basis for a woman to cover her hair during Wudhu. This appears to be a cultural practice.
