A wife’s right to intimate relations and impotency


I wanted to how many times is it obligatory on man to have sex with his wife.. 

Like once a year or a month or 4 months etc please let me know what to do?  As I suffer from erectile dysfunction I can't have sex every week.. However in order to have sex I need to take those pills like viagra etc please let me know what am I supposed to do?

Also what if wife waives her right for sex and says she wants to live with me forever without sex? Know what ?

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

  1. A husband should respond to his wife’s intimate needs and fulfil her according to her need without any fixed period.[1] This he should do to maintain her chastity and prevent her from desiring other men.[2] If the husband does not fulfil her intimate needs, he will be sinful.[3] The wife can waive her right to intimate relations.[4] However, prolonged celibacy may impact your marriage negatively; therefore refer to a specialist doctor in order to find a cure.


  1. Viagra is the brand name for a medicinal drug called Sildenafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is prescribed by medical professionals to treat impotency and has established medicinal effects. You can acquire it at pharmacies and via prescription. It is a permissible form of treatment for your condition. However, there are several tablets that treat the same condition such as tadalafil (Cialis), avanafil (Spedra) and vardenafil (Levitra). Therefore, you need to seek medical advice with regards to which one is suitable for you and then take it under the supervision of medical experts.[5]

وَظَاهِرُ الْمَذْهَبِ أَنْ لَا يَتَعَيَّنَ مِقْدَارٌ لِأَنَّ الْقَسْمَ مَعْنَى نِسْبِيٌّ وَإِيجَابُهُ طَلَبُ إيجَادِهِ وَهُوَ يَتَوَقَّفُ عَلَى وُجُودِ الْمُنْتَسِبِينَ فَلَا يُطْلَبُ قَبْلَ تَصَوُّرِهِ، بَلْ يُؤْمَرُ أَنْ يَبِيتَ مَعَهَا وَيَصْحَبَهَا أَحْيَانًا مِنْ غَيْرِ تَوْقِيتٍ. اهـ.

(قوله: مما يدخل تحت قدرته "فتح") تمام عبارته: (فإن أدى الواجب منه عليه لم يبق لها حق، ولم تلزمه التسوية). أي وذلك بأن حصنها عن الإشتهاء للغير كما هو الواجب ديانة، فحينئذ لا يجب عليه وإلا وجب خصوصا مع وجود الداعية، ويظهر أن ما قاله هذا البعض من المذهب، ونقله "الرحمتي" وأقره.

وَإِذَا طَالَبَتْهُ يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ وَيُجْبَرُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْحُكْمِ مَرَّةً وَالزِّيَادَةُ تَجِبُ دِيَانَةً لَا فِي الْحُكْمِ عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا وَعِنْدَ بَعْضِهِمْ تَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْحُكْمِ. اهـ.

أَمَّا لَوْ أَصَابَهَا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً لَمْ يَتَعَرَّضْ لَهُ لِأَنَّهُ عَلِمَ أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ عِنِّينٍ وَقْتَ الْعَقْدِ، بَلْ يَأْمُرُهُ بِالزِّيَادَةِ أَحْيَانًا لِوُجُوبِهَا عَلَيْهِ إلَّا لِعُذْرٍ وَمَرَضٍ أَوْ عُنَّةٍ عَارِضَةٍ أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ.
