Title

Will there be madd?

Question

Will there be madd if there is a shaddah (tashdid) over yaa, and the yaa is preceded by a kasra? Such an occurence is there in the last words of Ayat Al Kursi  ..... و هـو العلِيُّ العظيم

Similarly, will there be madd if there is a shaddah over waw, and the waw is preceded by a damma?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There will not be any madd in both scenarios. The letters of madd are:

Ø An alif ا  which is saakin and is preceded by a fatha

Ø A waw و  which is saakin and is preceded by a dhamma

Ø A yaa ى  which is saakin and preceded by a kasrah[i]
