Title: Does this book contain sorcery?

Question

al-salam 'alaykum,

Please provide information about the book, Shams al-Maʿārif al-Kubrá by Aḥmad b. ʿAlī al-Būnī (d.622/1225). Is this book consist of sorcery? Who was al-Būnī?

Answer

We are unable to comment on the book in reference as we do not have a copy of the book. Aḥmad binʿAlī al-Būnī was a sufi scholar who specialized in the ‘Science of Letters’ (Ilm al Huroof). He was born in the city of Bona (Annaba) in present day Algeria and died in Cairo1.
