Question

as salamulikum wa rahmatullah

I know a person he is having property and he gets money from renting part of the property. The rent he gets is only 5-6 thousand tk (bangladeshi currency) per month. He is not able to work due to physical condition. Can  I give him Zakat?

Answer

The standard Nisaab of Zakat is Two Hundred Dirhams (silver coins) equivalent to 612.35 grams of silver or Twenty Mithqals of Gold equivalent to 87.479 grams of gold or any currency that equals the value of this amount of gold and silver. Once one has the equivalent to the Nisaab or more than it, then he is considered a Sahibe-Nisaab. Such a person will not be eligible to accept Zakat.

If the person in reference is not a Sahibe-Nisaab, then he is eligible to accept Zakat.[i]
