Title

Du‘a for Pregnancy

Question

Assalaamu alaykum

Are there any duas that can be prayed in regards to trying to get pregnant? Is there anything one can do t oget more assisstance in this from Allah azza wa jall? Jazaakum Allahu khayra

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Allah decrees who gets children and who does not get children. The gender of the child is also decreed by Allah.

See the following verse:

{يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ الذُّكُورَ (49) أَوْ يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَاثًا وَيَجْعَلُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ عَقِيمًا إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ (50)}

He grants female offspring to whomever He wills, and He grants male offspring to whomever He wills. He bestows (upon some) both males and females, and He makes barren whomever He wills. Indeed, He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful. (Surat al-Shura, 49-50)[1]

Just as couples who are granted children will be rewarded for their gratitude, couples who are deprived will be rewarded for their patience.

You may recite the following du‘as from the Qur’an:

{رَبِّ هَبْ لِيْ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيْعُ الدُّعَاءِ (38)}

My Rabb, grant me virtuous offspring from Yourself, indeed, you hear every supplication. (Sura Al-‘Imran, 3:38)[2]

{رَبِّ هَبْ لِيْ مِنَ الصَّالِحِيْنَ (100)}

My Rabb, grant me a child from among the righteous. (Surat al-Saffat, 37:100)

{رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِيْ فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِيْنَ (89)}

My Rabb, do not leave me alone while You are the best of inheritors. (Surat al-Anbiya, 21:89)

{رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِيْنَ إِمَامًا (74)}

Our Rabb, make our spouses and our offspring the coolness of our eyes, and make us leaders of the pious. (Surat al-Furqan, 25:74)

{رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مُقِيْمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِيْ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ (40)}

My Rabb, make me and my offspring steadfast in salah. Our Rabb, accept my supplication. (Sura Ibrahim, 14:40)

{رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِيْ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِيْ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِيْ فِيْ ذُرِّيَّتِيْ إِنِّيْ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّيْ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ (15)}

My Rabb, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do good deeds that please You, and make my offspring righteous. Indeed, I repent to You, and indeed, I am of those who submit to You. (Surat al-Ahqaf, 46:15)

Adopt all possible means and du‘as to get children, then submit to the will and decree of Allah. Allah is al-Hakim. Every decree of Allah has wisdom in it. Whatever has been decreed for you by Allah, have firm belief that there is wisdom and goodness in it.

And Allah Ta‘ālā Knows Best.
