Title: Salam, I am from Canada and wondering if wearing red is permissible in Islam?

Question

Salam, Iam from Canada and wondeing if wearing red is permicible in Islam?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for women to wear red clothes.

It is Makrooh Tahreemi (Highly reprehensible) for men to wear red and yellow clothes which are specifically dyed with safflower (Carthamus tinctorious) and Saffron.[1]

However, it is Makrooh Tanzeehi (undesirable) for men to wear plain red clothes which are not specifically dyed with safflower.

If the red or yellow color is broken up with another color, it will be permissible to wear such clothing. For example, Arab shawls which have a mixture of red/yellow and other colors.

It is permissible for men to wear clothes with all other colors.
