Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah Sherwood, Durban

Mufti Ebrahim Desai studied higher Islamic education for ten years commencing from the Arabic Language, Usul al-Fiqh, Fiqh substantiated, Usul al-Hadith, and specialization in Hadith, Usul al-Tafsir, and specialization in Tafsir. He studied the sciences of issuing Fatawa in Dabhel under Mufti Ahmad Khanpuri Saheb (db), a renowned and leading Scholar in India. Thereafter he went for spiritual training to Mufti Mahmoodul Hasan Saheb rahmatullah ?alayh, the grand Mufti of India and a highly respected personality around the world.

He was a Senior Lecturer at Darul Uloom Ta’leemuddin, Isipingo Beach for 10 years and also headed of the Fatwa Department of the Jamiat ul Ulama (KZN). He was also a senior lecturer of hadith in Madrasah In’aamiyya, Camperdown from 2000 to 2010. He founded and headed the Darul Iftaa in Camperdown. He left Camperdown and is now in Durban, where he has founded Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah and trains students in the sciences of issuing fatawa. He does not have any official or academic contact with Madrasah In’aamiyya.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai is presently a senior lecturer in hadith in Darul Uloom Nu’maniyyah. He teaches Bukhari Sharif, along with other subjects.
